Naoko Yamada’s The Colors Within Anime Film Sets Global Release Plans

New York-based film distributor GKIDS and Glasgow-based film distributor Anime Ltd. have announced that they have licensed and will distribute The Colors Within (known as Kiminoiro in Japan), an upcoming theatrical anime film directed by Naoka Yamada (A Silent Voice) and featuring animation by Science SARU.

GKIDS will distribute the film In North America, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand, while Anime Ltd. will distribute the film in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Europe, with PLAION PICTURES handling Italian and German language releases. GKIDS will distribute the film both in Japanese with English subtitles and with a new English dub this winter.

Additionally, it was revealed that The Colors Within will have its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, which runs from June 9 – 15, 2024, in Annecy, France. The film will begin its theatrical run in Japan on August 30, 2024.

GKIDS describes The Colors Within:

Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to see the ‘colors’ of others. Colors of bliss, excitement, and serenity, plus a color she treasures as her favorite. Kimi, a classmate at her school, gives off the most beautiful color of all. Although she doesn’t play an instrument, Totsuko forms a band with Kimi and Rui, a quiet music enthusiast they meet at a used bookstore in a far corner of town. As they practice at an old church on a remote island, music brings them together, forming friendships and stirring affections. Will they discover their true ‘colors’?
